I know that there has been some understandable concern among the writer community on Medium that nominators have too much power, so I always want to be very clear that they only have the power to submit stories for consideration. Ultimately, it's our internal curation team that has the control over what is selected for Boost. A little detail that might be interesting to know is that only 50% of the stories Boosted on medium are submitted by nominators. The rest are boosted directly by our curation team. Nominators are a path to Boost, but only one.

...and then it gets even more crazy when you realize that five times as many stories every month get large amounts of traffic that are NOT Boosted. There are a lot of ways to visitability and distribution on Medium that don't include Boost, and does not include nominators.
