When I was managing the Boost Nomination Program for Medium, I often spoke with writers who were navigating their relationship with the platform. My response was always the same: A writer’s loyalty should never be to a platform … it must always be to their own writing. Platforms shift, priorities change, and every writer has the agency to choose what serves their work best. That was true when I worked at Medium, and it’s still true now.
…Empowerment, folks. I love it for all of us!
For me, I’ve decided that the best fit for my writing going forward is Beehiiv. If you’ve been getting my emails on Medium, you should already be imported over to Beehiiv, but just in case: here’s the subscribe link.
Now, will my writing on Beehiiv be perfectly niched and optimized for maximum growth? Not a chance! I’m not trying to make money with this newsletter. I just like having a place to write about my shit, for the folks who like reading about it.

- Writing and publishing industry gossip.
- Aging, with a Gen X lens.
- Community-building in all its weird, necessary, messy forms.
- ?????? (Because wtf who knows I’m always surprising myself.)
