Hey again, Greyson. Self-nominations refer to stories written by the nominator -- not other editors. Part of this program is incentivizing the folks who work with pubilcations, and that includes editors. It's assumed that publishers will nominate the work of their most trusted writers and editors. That's not a flaw of the program, that's by design. We want to reward the folks who put in a huge amount of work publishing and editing on Medium.
The key here is that ANYONE can start a publication on Medium, and ANYONE can apply to join the Boost Nomination Pilot. The program is growing by about 10% every month, with the ultimate goal of including 1000 publications once we move out of beta.
The idea here is to understand that of course publishers will nominate the work of their favorite writers and editors -- AND all the nominations have to go through our curational team, AND even better anyone can start a publication on Medium and apply to join the program.
The goal here is to empower more and more folks to start publications on Medium, by offering incentives to those publishers and editors. I'd encourage you to consider starting a publication yourself about a topic that matters to you, and signing up for the BNP. Ultimately, we want this to be an open system.
