Hey! I run the BNP, so I can give you a totally clear answer: the issue is indeed topic, but a pub with the topic "personal life stories" wouldn't get you into the program either... because that niche is already heavily represented in the program. Right now, I'm prioritizing for publications in topics that don't yet have representation in the program.

Also, if your publication has a lot of "meta" (content on Medium about writing & making money on Medium) that can also hurt your chances of getting into the program... especially if all that content is behind the paywall.
