Ultimately, I think what you're talking about is just capitalism... yes, the tech industry can be a little cold with layoffs, but as someone who's been in both the tech and media industries, I would say the bloodbaths are even worse at media companies! The tech industry is at least famous for spoiling its workers before laying them off -- I have colleagues who worked in newsrooms for pennies, who were then laid off without severance.

As my family's breadwinner, I've learned that the best practice for my mental health is to treat it ALL as temporary, live within my means, save obsessively, and do my best to enjoy the ride! 🎢 WHEEEEEE!
